East African rivals and neighbours Uganda and Tanzania meet at the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations for the first time. The Group stage match will be played at the Stade El Barid in Rabat on 27 December, with kick-off at 18h30 local time (17h30 GMT).
Uganda began their campaign with a 3–1 defeat to Tunisia, while Tanzania were beaten 2–1 by Nigeria in their opening fixture.
This is the first meeting between Uganda and Tanzania at the Africa Cup of Nations finals.
The two sides have faced each other 61 times in total across all competitions. Uganda have won 33 matches, Tanzania 12, with 16 draws.
Their most recent meetings came in qualifying for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, when the away side won 1–0 in each match. Tanzania finished second in the group ahead of Uganda and qualified for the finals in Côte d’Ivoire alongside group winners Algeria.
The rivalry dates back to 8 September 1964, when Tanzania defeated Uganda 3–0 in the East African Cup.
Uganda recorded their biggest win in this fixture with a 5–0 triumph on 30 November 1991 in a CECAFA Cup match.
