Rwanda seek campaign revival

Rwanda will be seeking to put their campaign back on track as they host Mauritius in a Group H Day 4 clash on Tuesday, 29 March 2016 in Kigali.

Amavubi suffered a shocking 1-0 defeat to the Islanders in the reverse last Saturday and nothing short of the maximum points in Tuesday’s clash will effectively end any hopes of qualifying to Gabon.

The East Africans have since arrived in Kigali to continue with preparations for the must win game against ‘Les Dodos’, with head coach Jon McKinstry hoping for a turnaround.

“Everyone is very disappointed with the result (Saturday’s game). We have to be honest and say the performance simply wasn’t good enough.

“Mauritius did not surprise us with their approach to the game. They played exactly the way we expected and we knew that the key to causing those problems was to play at high intensity. Unfortunately, it took Mauritius to score for our players to move out of third gear, and to the fifth.

“I have made clear to players that this is not good enough, and they are under no illusions about what is required going forward.

“We do however have an opportunity to recover from this disappointment, when we face Mauritius again on Tuesday in Kigali. The players know what is expected of them,” said McKinstry.

Ghana leads the pack on 10 points after a barren draw away against Mozambique in Maputo on Sunday, having played four matches each.

Mauritius trails with six points, three more than Rwanda with Mozambique at the bottom with a point.
