The Tunisia Football Federation (FTF) has parted ways with national team coach, Georges Leekens, the federation has announced.

A statement by the FTF following a meeting of its Emergency Committee on Saturday said “we have decided an amicable separation between the two parties without any payment on the part of FTF or Georges Leekens with immediate effect.

“His successor will be a foreigner and the FTF will now begin collaborative contacts with the Technical Directorate”.

The contract of the well-traveled Belgian was expected to run until March 2016.

Few weeks ago, he guided the 2004 African champions to an 8-1 win over Djibouti in the opening match of the 2017 AFCON qualifiers in Rades.

Leekens, who took charge in 2014, guided the Carthage Eagles to a quarter-final finish at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations losing to hosts Equatorial Guinea 2-1 after extra time.

Besides his native Belgium, the 66-year old has also worked in Turkey, Algeria, Netherlands and Saudi Arabia.
