Fès Stadium

Fès Stadium

The Fès Sports Complex is a major football stadium located in Fès, Morocco, along the road connecting the city to Sefrou. With a capacity of 45,000 seats, it blends the charm of traditional Moroccan architecture with modern facilities, offering world-class amenities and a vibrant atmosphere for national and international matches.

History and Development

Planning for the stadium began in 1992 by Moroccan architects and engineers, and construction started in 1994. Initially scheduled to be completed in 1997 to host the Junior Africa Cup of Nations along with the Honor Stadium of Meknès, the project experienced technical delays and was finally completed in 2003.

The complex includes a media centre, medical and first-aid facilities, an anti-doping control room, and parking that can accommodate up to 7,500 cars and 350 buses. As part of Morocco’s bids for the 2006 and 2010 FIFA World Cups, the stadium was renovated with the addition of 5,000 extra seats, bringing its total capacity to 45,000 spectators.

The stadium was officially inaugurated on 25 November 2007 during the final of the 2006–2007 Throne Cup between FAR Rabat (D1) and Rachad Bernoussi (D2), which ended 1–1 (FAR won 5–3 on penalties). Approximately 40,000 spectators attended, witnessing the first-ever goal scored in this stadium—a FAR Rabat own goal by Atik Chihab.

Since its inauguration, Maghreb de Fès has made the stadium its home, playing its first league match there against Jeunesse d’El Massira.
