Chipolopolo skipper Lubambo Musonda on Zambia’s chances in Morocco

Zambia have been drawn in a “fair group” and will need to work hard for a great TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 tournament.

These were the views expressed by Chipolopolo captain, Lubambo Musonda on the team’s chances at the finals set to take place in Morocco between 25 December 2025 – 18 January 2026.

The Southern African nation find themselves housed in Group A alongside tournament hosts, Morocco, Mali as well as Southern African counterparts Comoros in one of the groups fiercely dubbed as the group of death.

Zambia kick-off their campaign against west African powerhouse, Mali on 22 December ahead of a clash against Comoros four days later, before concluding their group stage campaign against the hosts on 29 December.

Interestingly, the 2012 champions will be concluding their TotalEnergies CAF AFCON group stages with Morocco in two consecutive AFCON finals, having met the Atlas Lions in Cote d’Ivoire last year where they were edged 1-0.

The two sides recently locked horns in Agadir, Morocco in a FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifier where the Atlas Lions emerged victorious in a closely contested 2-1 win.

“I think it is a fair draw. Morocco, Mali, Zambia and Comoros in the same group. Two teams that we have recently played against, so it is a good thing for us. We need to work; we need to prepare, and we are looking forward to a great AFCON 2025”, said the Zambian attacker.

Musonda (29), the FC Magdeburg star who made his Chipolopolo debut in 2024 will be playing at his fourth TotalEnergies CAF AFCON competition.

Preceding his senior AFCON debut in Cote d’Ivoire, Musonda represented his nation at youth level during the TotalEnergies CAF U-20 AFCON 2015 as well as the TotalEnergies CAF U-23 AFCON 2015.

With three tough opponents in Group A, Zambia will have to put last year’s disappointing run that saw them bow out in the group stages behind them ahead of what promises to be yet another tough and exciting TotalEnergies CAF AFCON tournament.
