Equatorial Guinea managed a goalless draw against group leaders Algeria in their 2025 TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Thursday to confirm their place at the tournament to be played in Morocco next year.

The home side held the Group E leaders to a 0-0 draw at Nuevo Estadio de Malabo in a tightly contested affair to confirm second place in the group.

The result means Algeria remains at the top of Group E with 13 points, while Equatorial Guinea is second with 8 points, securing their third consecutive appearance in Africa's flagship football competition.

That is because third-placed Liberia, who have four points, cannot overtake Equatorial Guinea with just one match remaining in the group.

Despite several opportunities on both sides, neither team could break the deadlock.

Dessert Foxes came into the game as group leaders, aiming to extend their advantage. Riyad Mahrez led their attack, and the visitors saw good chances through Mohammed Amoura and Ramiz Zerrouki.

However, Nzalang Nacional's defense, marshaled by Basilio Ndong and Marvin Anieboh, held firm.

Equatorial Guinea threatened Algeria’s goal with attempts from Pedro Obiang and Luís Asué, but Algeria’s goalkeeper stood tall.

The game saw several substitutions, with both sides injecting fresh legs to maintain intensity, yet neither could find the decisive goal.

Algeria stays top, with Equatorial Guinea trailing by five points. Liberia and Togo remain third and fourth, respectively, with no chances of qualifying.
