Reigning African goalkeeper of the year Williams ahead of TotalEnergies CAF AFCON 2025 Final Draw

The final draw for the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 will take place in Rabat on Monday, 27 January.
A total of 24 nations will gather for this historic event, and Bafana Bafana, South Africa’s national football team, will be among the teams eagerly awaiting their fate.
Bafana Bafana secured qualification for the tournament with an impressive performance in their group, finishing at the top of their preliminary group. They topped their group ahead of Uganda, Congo, and South Sudan, marking their 12th appearance at the prestigious continental competition.
South Africa’s goalkeeper and captain, Ronwen Williams, has expressed his excitement ahead of the draw, noting that Bafana Bafana’s qualification is a significant achievement for the team and the nation.
Williams emphasized the importance of being seeded along other African football powerhouses.
“Yeah, we're excited. We're looking forward to it. The main and the most important thing is that we are in the top ten now, so we are in pot two and it's going to be difficult whichever group that you are in, because this is the best of the best on the continent,” Williams said.
The 33-year-old shot-stopper further shared his optimism for the team’s prospects, noting that, with enough time to prepare before the tournament in December, they will have a strong chance of making an impact.
“We’re excited for the draw, we’re looking forward to it and the most important thing is that we qualified,” he added.
The reigning African Goalkeeper of the Year also pointed out the importance of fitness and readiness for the upcoming tournament, emphasising the significance of having all the players fit and prepared for the challenge.
“We’ve got enough time now, you know, God-willing, you know, all our soldiers are fit and ready to go, so that we can obviously from the experiences we got last year, even go a step further this year,” Williams said, reflecting on the lessons learned from previous campaigns.
