Total Energies Africa Cup of Nations 2025: Meet the Coach: Vladimir Petković (Algeria)

Vladimir Petković takes charge of Algeria at the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations finals, Morocco 2025, having taken over as head coach of the "Fennecs" nearly a year ago.
Petković will get his first taste of an African competition when he debuts at the 35th edition his year. The 62-year-old coach will however be banking on his FIFA World Cup and the UEFA European Championship in 2016 and 2020 experience with Switzerland when he leads the North Africans in their quest for a third African title.

Career Highlights: Throughout his coaching career, Petković has managed several clubs, including Lazio Rome during the 2012-2013 season, where he won the Coppa Italia in 2013, as well as French club Bordeaux, Swiss clubs Sion and Lugano, among others.
The Bosnian coach made his name in coaching with the Swiss national team, which he managed from 2014 to 2021. Under his guidance, Switzerland participated in two editions of the UEFA European Championship (2016 and 2020), reaching the quarterfinals in 2020, and competed in the 2018 World Cup, advancing to the Round of 16.
Coaching Style: Petković is known for his distinctive attacking style of play, favouring high-pressure tactics with many players involved in the attack. When defending, he often relies on all of his players, including midfielders and forwards, to apply intense pressure on the opposition.

This will be Petković's first TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations.
