CAF African Schools Football Championship Finals: Seven Days Countdown to Zanzibar kick-off

Excitement is growing in Zanzibar as it prepares to host the second edition of the CAF African Schools Football Championship Continental Finals on Tuesday, 21 May 2024 featuring Zonal Winners from across the continent.

The Finals will be held at the Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar from 21 to 24 May 2024.

The CAF African Schools Football Championship features Boys and Girls under the age of 15.  

This year, about 804,480 young Boys and Girls in from 28,862 schools across 44 countries have participated.

This is an increase of 40% from the previous edition.

For the Finals in Zanzibar, 12 teams have qualified.

 

CAF African Schools Football Championship Final participating teams: 

Boys: Benin (WAFU B), Libya (UNAF), Republic of Congo (UNIFFAC), Senegal (WAFU A), South Africa (COSAFA), Uganda (CECAFA).

Girls: Gambia (WAFU A), Morocco (UNAF), Republic of Congo (UNIFFAC), South Africa (COSAFA), Togo (WAFU B), Uganda (CECAFA).

The draw that will determine the final fixtures is set to take place on 19 May, 48 hours before the first game.

The championship, which is part of CAF’s overall African Schools Programme, is coupled with capacity-building programmes, including the Young Reporters Programme, Young Referee Programme, Young Medical Officers Programme, CAF D License Coaching Course, and CAF Safeguarding workshops.

Winners of both the Boys’ and Girls’ competition will each receive USD 300 000 prize money, runners-up each receiving USD 200 000, while the bronze medallists will each take home USD 150 000, courtesy of CAF’s partnership with the Motsepe Foundation to be utilised for development projects within schools.
