CAF Coaching Workshop shapes future coaches at CAF African Schools Football Championship Continental Finals

The CAF African Schools Football Championship Continental Finals has taken on an added dimension beyond the excitement on the pitch, with the rollout of the CAF D License Coaching Course currently underway ahead of the start of the competition at the Gateway High School in Harare.

A total of 30 aspiring coaches are participating in the course, representing a diverse and inspiring group united by their passion for football development at grassroots level.

Notably, the programme includes coaches who work with physically challenged learners, providing them with a valuable opportunity to gain foundational coaching knowledge and enhance their ability to deliver inclusive football training.

The course is being spearheaded by seasoned CAF instructors, whose vast experience ensures that participants receive high-quality knowledge and practical insights..

Participants in the CAF D License course are being equipped with essential coaching fundamentals, including:

  • Introduction to coaching principles and ethics
  • Basic football techniques and skill development
  • Session planning and organization
  • Player safety and safeguarding
  • Understanding the laws of the game
  • Talent identification and grassroots development
  • Communication and leadership skills in coaching
  • Physical conditioning basics for young players

An integral part of the learning experience will involve the analysis of matches taking place between 06–10 April. This hands-on approach allows participants to observe real-game scenarios, enhancing their tactical understanding and ability to assess player performance in a competitive environment.

The workshop, along with other workshops currently underway in Harare are strategically aligned with the programme’s vision of blending football with education, ensuring that the tournament leaves a lasting legacy by empowering individuals who will shape the future of the game.

The CAF African Schools Football Championship is a brainchild of CAF President, Dr Patrice Motsepe and aligns with his bold vision of making African football globally competitive and self-sustaining.
