CAF Grassroots Festival inspires future stars in Harare
The spirit of African football’s bright future was on full display on Wednesday morning, as the CAF African Schools Football Championship Grassroots Festival brought joy and inspiration to young aspiring players at Gateway High School in Harare.
Held ahead of Day 3 of the CAF African Schools Football Championship Continental Finals, the vibrant festival created a memorable platform for children to engage directly with some of the continent’s most respected football figures while celebrating the essence of grassroots development.
The fun-filled morning was headlined by reigning CAF Women’s Coach of the Year, Lamia Boumehdi, who led dynamic coaching drills alongside a group of esteemed CAF Legends. Their presence added immense value to the experience, as they shared knowledge, skills, and personal insights with the next generation of African football talent.

A total of 150 children participated in the festival, including 28 young participants from a local academy who were part of the CAF Young Referees Workshop.
“The CAF Grassroots Festival is a celebration of dreams in motion. By giving young players access to the game, the right guidance, and the right tools, we are not just developing footballers - we are shaping confident, empowered individuals who represent the future of African football”, said Mukuna.
The CAF Grassroots Festival forms a key part of CAF’s broader commitment to nurturing young talent, promoting access to the game, and building a strong foundation for the future of African football.
As the Continental Finals continue, the echoes of Wednesday morning’s excitement serve as a powerful reminder that the future of the game is not only bright - but already in motion.
