CAF Legends inspire Zimbabwean children with football boots donation at CAF African Schools Football Championship Grassroots Festival
The spirit of football development was on full display at the CAF African Schools Football Championship Grassroots Festival in Zimbabwe, as CAF Legends distributed football boots to participating children in a heartwarming initiative inspired by the FIFA Boots for All campaign.
The special moment brought smiles and excitement to hundreds of young aspiring footballers boys and girls under the age of 12 as the legends personally handed over boots to children taking part in the grassroots activities. The initiative reflects the growing commitment of the CAF to remove barriers to participation and ensure that every child has the opportunity to play the beautiful game.

The football boots donation forms part of CAF’s broader vision to strengthen grassroots football development across Africa, championed by CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe, whose leadership continues to prioritize access, inclusion, and youth empowerment through football.
Under Dr Motsepe’s vision, the CAF African Schools Football Championship has become much more than a competition—it is now a platform for education, opportunity, and social impact, helping to nurture the next generation of African talent while promoting the values of unity and hope.
Speaking on the initiative, CAF Member Associations Director, Sarah Mukuna, emphasized the importance of giving young players the tools they need to dream bigger.
“At CAF, we believe every child deserves the chance to play football in dignity and with pride. Providing football boots may seem simple, but for many children it is a powerful message that their dreams matter. This initiative, inspired by FIFA Boots for All and aligned with the vision of the CAF President, demonstrates our commitment to grassroots development and to creating opportunities for children across Africa.”
The presence of the CAF Legends added even greater inspiration to the event, as the young participants had the opportunity to interact with some of African football’s icons—players who once began their journeys in circumstances similar to theirs.
By combining inspiration with practical support, the boot distribution initiative highlighted the essence of the CAF African Schools Football Championship Grassroots Festival: creating access, encouraging participation, and inspiring the future stars of African football.
As CAF continues to expand its grassroots programmes, initiatives like these reaffirm the organization’s mission to make football a vehicle for empowerment and transformation in communities across the continent.
