Young aspiring footballers at the CAF African Schools Football Championship Continental Finals received invaluable guidance from some of the continent’s most respected football figures, as CAF Legends led an engaging session under the Protect The Dream initiative.

The workshop, focused on safeguarding in football, children’s rights, integrity in the game, and the prevention of exploitation by fake agents, delivered a strong message to learners about the importance of making informed decisions in their budding careers.

A panel of distinguished African football legends, including Esrom Nyandoro, Rudo Neshamba, Clémentine Touré, Trésor Lualua, Lamia Boumehdi, Amanda Dlamini, Siphiwe Tshabalala, Sophia Mwasikili, Karim Haggui and Nchumunya Mweetwa, shared personal experiences and practical advice with the attentive audience.

Central to the discussions was a warning against fake agents who often target young talent with false promises of lucrative contracts and opportunities abroad. The legends stressed the importance of patience, discipline, and proper guidance in navigating football pathways.

encouraged the learners to stay focused and trust the development process. “Success in football does not happen overnight. You must be patient, work hard, and surround yourself with people who genuinely have your best interests at heart,” she said. “Do not rush into decisions because someone is promising you quick success”, said  Boumehdi

Echoing the sentiment, Trésor Lualua warned against the dangers of falling for deceptive individuals.

“There are many people who will try to take advantage of your dreams. Always verify who you are dealing with and seek advice from your coaches, parents, and trusted mentors before making any decisions,” he advised.

The session forms part of CAF’s Protect The Dream initiative, which aims to create a safer football environment by promoting safeguarding principles, protecting children’s rights, and upholding integrity within the sport.

Through open dialogue and mentorship, the legends not only inspired the next generation but also equipped them with the awareness needed to protect themselves as they pursue their football ambitions.

As the CAF African Schools Football Championship continues in Harare, such initiatives remain vital in ensuring that young players are empowered both on and off the pitch.
