CAF Young Reporters Programme opens doors for Zimbabwe’s aspiring sports journalists

Published:

With just days to go before the kick off of the CAF African Schools Football Championship, aspiring football reporters in Zimbabwe have an exciting opportunity to be part of the CAF Young Reporters Programme, an initiative by CAF in partnership with CANAL+.

This programme brings to life the partnership agreement signed between CAF and CANAL+ International in January 2025, which is aimed at developing training programmes for young African talents pursuing careers in sports journalism.

The CAF African Schools Football Championship will take place in Harare, Zimbabwe, from 02 to 10 April 2026.

Targeted at young people under the age of 25 who are passionate about journalism and African football, the programme offers participants an opportunity to:

  • Take part in exclusive masterclasses led by renowned journalists and media professionals
  • Develop both editorial and technical skills
  • Produce reports directly from the field during the competition under real professional conditions

Applicants are required to submit:

  • A motivation letter
  • A CV
  • An article, audio extract, or video showcasing their work

Applications must be sent to youngreporter@cafonline.com no later than 24 March 2026.

Since its 2022 inception, the CAF Young Reporters Programme has been a key development component of the CAF African Schools Football Championship. Through this initiative, CAF provides a valuable platform for emerging talents to receive hands-on mentorship and inspiration.

During the competition, participants will gain hands-on experience by working closely with the CAF Communications Department, with standout performers securing a chance to be selected for an exclusive internship at CANAL+ headquarters.

The programme complements several other CAF capacity-building initiatives, including:

  • CAF D Licence Coaching Courses
  • CAF Protection Workshops
  • Safety and Security Workshops
  • Young Doctors Programme
  • Young Referees Programme
