WAFU A Zone gearing up to host CAF African Schools Football Championship qualifiers

The innovative youth football competition by CAF, which is a first of its kind in world football moves to the WAFU A Zone following successful editions in the WAFU B (Togo), COSAFA (Zimbabwe), CECAFA (Kenya) and UNAF (Egypt) CAF Zones where teams in both the Boys and Girls divisions secured their tickets to the CAF African Schools Football Championship Finals.

With the action now swiftly moving to the WAFU A Zone, 5 nations are set to contest a ticket to the Finals which will take place later this year.

In line with the competition’s objective of developing and capacitating future African leaders, the CAF African Schools Football Championship will continue with its off-field capacity building programmes that are set to start ahead of the competition on 26 February and run concurrently to the three-day competition.

These include the CAF D License Coaching course,  Young Reporters Programme, Young Referee Programme as well as the CAF Safeguarding Programme, which remain a key objective for CAF in its holistic approach to youth football development.

In addition to the capacity building programmes, CAF further distributed 800 PUMA match balls to all 44 participating Member Associations across the CAF Zones, which are utilised across the host nations.

This season of the competition also marked a significant milestone in the tournament’s exciting growth, with over 800,000 young African boys and girls from more than 28,000 schools across 44 countries participating.
