Beaumelle: MC Alger must win against Yanga to boost qualification hopes

MC Alger coach Patrice Beaumelle has set his sights on securing a crucial win against Tanzania’s Young Africans (Yanga) in their Group A clash of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League.

The match, scheduled for Saturday, 7 December, will take place behind closed doors at the iconic Stade du 5 Juillet 1962 in Algiers.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, the French tactician emphasized the importance of this encounter for his team’s ambitions.

“Our goal in this match is to enhance our chances of qualifying for the next round, and that means we must win,” Beaumelle said confidently.

MC Alger comes into this match on the back of a commendable 0-0 draw away against TP Mazembe in their opening group-stage match.

Beaumelle stressed the need to capitalize on home advantage, adding, “Playing at home gives us an opportunity to confirm the point we earned in Congo. We need to deliver a strong performance and secure the win.”

However, the coach acknowledged the formidable challenge posed by Young Africans, a side he described as experienced and skillful.

“Young Africans have been regular participants in the CAF Champions League and consistently perform well. They boast highly skilled players with significant experience,” Beaumelle admitted.

Despite Young Africans suffering a 2-0 defeat to Al Hilal Omdurman in their opening fixture, Beaumelle warned against underestimating the Tanzanian side.

“Their loss in the first game doesn’t reflect their true strength. They played well, and we need to be at our best to win this match,” he cautioned.

The match is set to kick off at 19:00 GMT, with MC Alger aiming to strengthen their position in Group A.

A win would see them take a major step toward progressing to the knockout stages of Africa’s premier club competition.

Group A Outlook

Group A features tough competition, with Al Hilal currently leading after their opening victory. TP Mazembe sits level with MC Alger on one point, while Young Africans seek their first points in the campaign.
