CAF reinforces Safety and Security standards ahead of 2026/27 CAF Interclub season
The Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) has reaffirmed its commitment to making safety and security a cornerstone of its competitions after hosting a CAF Interclub Safety and Security meeting for clubs participating in the preliminary rounds of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.
The online engagement, which was held on 10 August brought together Club Safety and Security Officers from across the continent, as preparations intensify for the start of the new Interclub season.
The gathering of the safety and security officials forms part of CAF’s broader efforts to raise standards across its competitions and ensure that clubs enter the season with a clear understanding of the expectations and requirements set out by CAF in creating safe and secure stadium experiences across all its competitions.
Participants were guided through key operational areas including integrated planning and coordination, stadium security, access control, crowd management, communication protocols and daily reporting procedures.
Opening the session, CAF Safety and Security Department Head, Dr Christian Emeruwa highlighted the importance of collective responsibility in delivering safe and secure match environments across the continent.
“We cannot achieve our objectives alone. Safety and security is a shared responsibility and requires the commitment of every stakeholder involved in CAF competitions,” said Dr Emeruwa.
“We have seen encouraging improvements in recent years, but there is still work to be done. Through engagements such as this workshop, we want all participating clubs to clearly understand CAF’s expectations and the important role they play in ensuring safe, secure and successful matches throughout the season.”
The online engagement follows the successful CAF Safety and Security Workshop held recently in Johannesburg, South Africa, for Member Associations and stakeholders from the COSAFA region which brought together safety and security practitioners from across Southern Africa for practical discussions on stadium safety and security.
CAF continues to place safety and security at the heart of its competitions planning, working closely with clubs, Member Associations and local authorities to ensure that Africa’s premier club competitions are delivered in line with the highest safety and security standards.
