Ikwaput's five-star show powers Kampala Queens to big win

A stunning five-goal haul from Fazila Ikwaput guided Kampala Queens to an emphatic 6-1 victory over FAD FC in their CAF Women's Champions League CECAFA qualifier on Monday.

The Ugandan champions' sharpshooter netted a first-half hat-trick to give Kampala a commanding 3-0 lead at the break at FUFA Technical Center.

FAD pulled a goal back through Rahma Moustapha Aden in the 53rd minute after sloppy Kampala defending.

But the hosts intensified their search for more goals and defender Elizabeth Nakigozi made it 4-1 with a long-range strike in the 71st minute.

Ikwaput then added two more goals late on to complete her five-star showing and take her tally to eight for the tournament.

The win moves Kampala up to second in Group A on seven points, level with leaders Commercial Bank of Ethiopia but with an inferior goal difference.

"My aim is to finish as top scorer and guide my team to the trophy. I'm leading the scoring charts and we can still qualify," said Ikwaput.

Earlier, Buja Queens of Burundi edged Yei Joint Stars of South Sudan 1-0 thanks to captain Asha Djafari's last-gasp winner.

Yei goalkeeper Nawal Majok also saved a penalty from Topister Situma after 58 minutes.

On Thursday, Commercial Bank of Ethiopia face Yei Joint Stars while Buja Queens meet FAD FC in the final group games.

The regional tournament winner will qualify for the inaugural CAF Women's Champions League in Morocco later this year.

Ikwaput's phenomenal goalscoring form could prove vital for Kampala's hopes of continental glory.
