Final spots up for grabs as finely-poised CAF Interclub semi-finals head into decisive second legs

Published:

The race for continental glory continues this weekend as the decisive second legs of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup 2025/26 semi-finals take centre stage.

With narrow advantages secured in the first legs, four places in the finals of Africa’s premier club competitions remain up for grabs in what promises to be a thrilling conclusion to the semi-final phase.

In the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League, Mamelodi Sundowns will be keen to complete the job at home after securing a valuable 1-0 away victory over Tunisia’s Espérance Sportive de Tunis in Rades last weekend.

Brayan León’s second half header not only ended Espérance’s long unbeaten home run but also handed Sundowns a crucial edge heading into Saturday’s return leg in Pretoria at 13h00 GMT.

In the other semi-final, Morocco’s FAR Rabat carry a commanding 2-0 advantage into their return leg against RS Berkane, extending their impressive unbeaten run in the competition.

With a place in the final at stake, the Moroccan derby remains alive as Berkane will draw inspiration from playing on home soil and be confident they can overturn the tie

The TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup also promises high drama, with Egypt’s Zamalek SC looking to seal qualification in Cairo after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Algeria’s CR Belouizdad in the first leg.

Despite their defeat in Algiers, the Algerian club’s ability to create chances suggests the tie remains finely balanced.

The second semi-final between USM Alger and Olympique Club de Safi is delicately poised following a goalless first leg in Algiers. USM Alger’s defensive strength, highlighted by a competition-leading number of clean sheets, will be tested by a Safi side that remains unbeaten on the road and has demonstrated resilience throughout the campaign.

With record prize money at stake, USD 6 million for the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League winners and USD 4 million for the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup champions, the stakes have never been higher as Africa’s top clubs battle for continental supremacy.
