Pyramids, ASEC Mimosas and Horoya advance to TotalEnergies CAF Champions League second preliminary round

Pyramids FC, ASEC Mimosas and Horoya AC secured their places in the second preliminary round of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League on Sunday after a busy night of first-round second-leg action.

Several sides booked their passage with convincing victories, while others needed the lottery of a penalty shoot-out to settle their ties.

Simba SC continued their strong start to the continental campaign with a 6-1 victory over Mighty Wanderers, completing a 7-1 aggregate triumph.

Libya’s Al-Swehly SC also progressed comfortably, defeating KZ FC 3-0 to complete a 4-0 aggregate victory.

FC San Pedro secured their place after a 2-2 draw away to Rivers United. The Ivorian side had drawn the first leg 1-1, with the two teams level at 3-3 on aggregate before San Pedro advanced on away goals.

Colombe Sportive du Dja et Lobo needed penalties to overcome Stade Malien after the second leg in Cameroon ended goalless. With the aggregate score also level, the Cameroonian side prevailed 4-3 in the shoot-out.

ASEC Mimosas progressed after edging ASCK over two legs. The Ivorian champions won the second leg 2-1 to advance 3-2 on aggregate.

Sidama Bunna FC also secured qualification with a 3-0 victory over Aglon FC of N'Djamena, completing a 3-0 aggregate success.

In one of the night’s more closely fought ties, Horoya AC defeated Algeria’s JS Saoura 3-1 in the second leg to overturn the deficit from the first meeting and advance 3-2 on aggregate.

Pyramids FC produced one of the biggest victories of the round, beating Kenya’s Gor Mahia 5-1 to complete a 7-1 aggregate win.

FC Nouadhibou of Mauritania advanced after a goalless draw against Uganda’s Vipers SC. The result was enough for the Mauritanian side to progress 1-1 on aggregate following the first-leg draw.

Senegal’s Teungueth FC completed the list of Sunday’s winners, defeating FC Kanifing of The Gambia 1-0 to secure a 2-0 aggregate victory.

The qualified teams now turn their attention to the second preliminary round of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League, where a place in the group stage will be at stake.
