Tanzania's Simba SC secured their place in the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League 2026/27 Group Stage after defeating Equatorial Guinea's 15 de Agosto 3-0 in Dar es Salaam on Sunday to complete a commanding 9-1 aggregate victory.

Second-half goals from Anicet Oura, Elie Mpanzu and Matlala Makgalwa ensured Simba comfortably progressed from the Second Preliminary Round after their emphatic 6-1 away victory in the opening leg.

The result means Simba join Tanzanian rivals Young Africans in the Group Stage of Africa's premier club competition, giving Tanzania two representatives among the continent's final 16 clubs.

Having established a five-goal advantage in the first leg, Simba entered the return encounter as overwhelming favourites to advance.

However, the hosts were unable to find a breakthrough during a goalless first half as 15 de Agosto kept their opponents at bay.

Simba eventually broke the deadlock in the 57th minute through Anicet Oura, whose goal extended their aggregate advantage and effectively ended any remaining hopes of a comeback by the visitors.

Elie Mpanzu doubled the lead in the 69th minute as the Tanzanian giants continued to dominate the second half.

Matlala Makgalwa completed the scoring in the 78th minute, sealing a comprehensive victory and another impressive attacking display from Simba.

The three goals followed their outstanding performance in Equatorial Guinea on Wednesday, when Ibrahim Doumbia scored twice in a 6-1 triumph that also featured goals from Nathaniel Chilambo, Mpanzu, Makgalwa and Oura.

Simba's nine goals across the two matches underlined their attacking strength and confirmed their status as one of the teams to watch in the next phase.

For 15 de Agosto, the defeat ended a difficult continental campaign after conceding six goals at home and three more in Tanzania.

Simba will now turn their attention to the Group Stage, scheduled to begin in November, as they continue their pursuit of continental success.

Colombe end Cameroon's group stage drought with victory over Teungueth

Meanwhile Cameroon's Colombe du Dja et Lobo secured their place in the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League 2026/27 Group Stage with a 1-0 home victory over Senegal's Teungueth FC on Sunday, completing a convincing 3-0 aggregate triumph.

Eyango Priso scored the only goal after just 50 seconds, giving the Cameroonian champions a dream start and effectively ending any hopes of a comeback by the Senegalese visitors.

Colombe entered the return fixture with a commanding advantage following their impressive 2-0 away victory in Dakar in the first leg.

Priso's early breakthrough extended that advantage to three goals, leaving Teungueth facing a daunting task.

The hosts maintained their lead throughout the encounter to complete an important achievement for Cameroonian club football.

The qualification marks a welcome return to the continental Group Stage for Cameroon, whose clubs have struggled to make significant progress in CAF interclub competitions in recent years.

Colombe now join Africa's leading clubs in the 16-team Group Stage, scheduled to begin in November.
