TotalEnergies CAF Champions League: TP Mazembe strike in Ghana as ASCK and ASEC Mimosas share the spoils

TP Mazembe secured one of the best results of the preliminary round with a 1-0 away victory over Medeama, while Colombe Sportive du Sud were held to a goalless draw by Stade Malien. In Togo, ASCK and ASEC Mimosas played out to a 1-1 draw, leaving all three ties finely balanced ahead of the return legs.

TP Mazembe secured a valuable away victory over Medeama SC on Sunday, 6 September, winning 1-0 at the TnA Stadium in Tarkwa, Ghana.

After a closely contested encounter, the decisive moment came in the closing stages. Lise Nyembo Ntumba broke the deadlock in the 86th minute, scoring the only goal of the match to give his side a precious advantage.

The result puts TP Mazembe in a strong position ahead of the return leg, scheduled for Saturday, 12 September at 15h00 at TP Mazembe Stadium.

Colombe Sportive du Sud 0-0 Stade Malien

Colombe Sportive du Sud were unable to find a way past Stade Malien in a goalless draw on Sunday at Stade Omnisport.

Despite the backing of their home supporters, the Cameroonian champions could not break down the Malian side. The result leaves the tie wide open ahead of the return leg.

Colombe will now travel to Bamako in the coming days, knowing that an away victory is required to keep their continental campaign alive.

ASCK 1-1 ASEC Mimosas

ASCK and ASEC Mimosas played out a 1-1 draw on Sunday at Stade de Kégué.

Roared on by their home supporters, the Chauffeurs de la Kozah made the stronger start. After an intense opening quarter of an hour, the Togolese side took the lead when Enock Assignon finished with his right foot in the 15th minute, following a through ball from Germain Agadji. It was his first appearance and first goal in the colours of his new club.

ASCK then began to lose their grip on the match. A misplaced pass on the edge of the penalty area allowed ASEC Mimosas to draw level through Ben Guel in the 40th minute, just before the interval.

The second half was more evenly contested. ASCK created an early opportunity through Sonhaye Napo in the 50th minute, before the Ivorian side missed a good chance ten minutes later. Kokouvi Amekoudzi then tested Charles Ayayi Folly, who was again called into action in the 84th minute.

The tie remains finely poised ahead of the return leg, scheduled for Sunday, 13 September at Stade Félix-Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan.
