DR Congo giants TP Mazembe have appointed Slimane Raho as their new head coach, with the Franco-Algerian returning to the Lubumbashi giants on a deal running until the end of the current season.

The 51-year-old succeeds Lamine Mamadou Ndiaye, bringing an immediate end to the club’s latest coaching transition as the Ravens look to stabilise performances and reinforce their ambitions for the remainder of the campaign.

Mazembe confirmed the appointment on Friday, January 30, describing Raho as a familiar and trusted figure within the club’s structure.

He previously served as assistant coach during the 2021–2022 season, working alongside Franck Dumas, a period that strengthened his ties with both the squad and the club’s leadership.

In a media statement announcing the decision, the club said: “TP Mazembe is pleased to announce the appointment of Slimane Raho as head coach of the Ravens' first team.”

“He was chosen by management to succeed Lamine Mamadou Ndiaye. Slimane Raho and TPM are joining forces today with renewed ambitions for the game and improved performance.

"The club is delighted to welcome this new architect of Mazembe's play, unanimously recognized for his human and technical qualities, and renowned for his ability to develop the best talent.”

Raho arrives with a strong coaching pedigree across North Africa.

A former Algerian international defender who played for JS Kabylie and ES Sétif, he transitioned into coaching after his playing career, establishing a reputation as a meticulous tactician and respected man-manager.

As assistant coach to Franck Dumas, he was part of JS Kabylie’s runner-up finish in the Algerian league in 2019 and later contributed to CR Belouizdad’s title-winning campaign in 2020.

The changeover was handled in what the club described as a calm and respectful atmosphere. Raho arrived in Lubumbashi earlier on Friday and held meetings with the board of directors, the outgoing technical team and the club’s captains.

Mazembe confirmed that an amicable agreement had been reached with Lamine Mamadou Ndiaye, who then participated in a formal handover process.

The two coaches met alongside members of the technical staff, with Ndiaye presenting his successor with a detailed overview of the squad and ongoing work, underlining the continuity the club hopes to maintain.

Training under the new head coach is scheduled to resume on Saturday at the Frédéric Kibassa-Maliba Stadium, as Mazembe begin the next chapter of their season under a familiar face with renewed responsibility.
