Vita Club edge out Kabylie for first win

Congo’s AS Vita Club picked up their first win in Group A of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League after seeing off Algerian outfit JS Kabylie 1-0 at home on Saturday.

Lema Mabidi’s second half goal ensured Vita earned maximum points in front of their home fans to move to third in the group with three points, bouncing back from their opening day defeat to Petro de Luanda.

Vita started off on a conserved note, playing behind the ball and attacking on the counter. The opening half didn’t have many scoring chances.

In the second half though, Vita came off on an attacking note pressing Kabylie into their own half as they created chances to open up the game.

They were finally rewarded in the 65th minute when Mabidi pounced on a rebound after the Kabylie keeper made an initial save. It was a relieving goal for the home side especially after camping in their visitors’ half for most of the game.

Kabylie made changes to the personnel, bringing in attacking faces but they couldn’t find an equaliser.

Despite the loss, they remain second in the group with four points, though they have played three matches, one more than Vita.
