Nairobi United stun Etoile Sahel as Wydad, Otoho and Singida grab key away results
The TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup 2025/26 continued on Sunday with drama across the continent as Kenya’s Nairobi United stunned Tunisian giants Etoile du Sahel, while AS Otoho d’Oyo of Congo and Singida Black Stars of Tanzania secured vital away results in the first leg of the second preliminary round.
Nairobi United 2–0 Etoile du Sahel
Kenyan debutants Nairobi United produced the shock of the round with a 2–0 home victory over Etoile du Sahel at the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi.
The hosts, who have captured the imagination of fans with their fearless style, went ahead in the 37th minute through Ovella Ochieng, who fired home from close range after a defensive lapse.
Buoyed by a vocal crowd, Nairobi United doubled their lead shortly after halftime when John Otieno’s curling effort found the back of the net in the 52nd minute.
The result puts the Tunisians, one of Africa’s most decorated clubs, under immense pressure ahead of the return leg in Sousse.
Ferroviário Maputo 0–1 Otoho d’Oyo
In Maputo, AS Otoho d’Oyo earned a crucial 1–0 away win over Ferroviário Maputo of Mozambique to put themselves in a strong position to reach the group stage.
The breakthrough came in the 80th minute, when the visitors struck the winner to silence the home fans.
Otoho’s disciplined defensive display frustrated the hosts throughout, leaving Ferroviário with all to do in the second leg in Brazzaville.
Flambeau du Centre 1–1 Singida Black Stars
Elsewhere, Flambeau du Centre of Burundi were held to a 1–1 draw by Singida Black Stars.
The Tanzanian side took the lead in the 60th minute before the hosts responded two minutes later to restore parity.
The result gives Singida a valuable away goal ahead of the reverse fixture in Tanzania.
Asante Kotoko 0–1 Wydad
Meanwhile, Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko were beaten 1-0 by Wydad Casablanca in the match played in Accra.
The visitors scored the only goal of the match just after the break after dominating the exhcanges.
The result gives Wydad an important away win ahead of the return leg to be played in Morocco.
