Olympic Club de Safi overcome San Pedro, Zamalek secure away win over Al Masry

Olympic Club de Safi put themselves in a strong position of qualifying for the knockout stages of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday after ending San Pedro by 2-1.

Egytian giants, Zamalek had to dig dee against a spirited Al Masry side as they emerged 2-1 victors to remain top of Group D.

Below is a summary of the two fixtures.

 

Olympic Safi 2–1 San Pédro

Olympic Safi claimed an important home victory after edging San Pédro 2–1 in an entertaining encounter.

The Moroccan side opened the scoring in the 29th minute when Salaheddine Errahouli finished a swift counter-attack, firing a right-footed strike into the top corner from the left side of the box to give Safi a deserved lead at the break.

San Pédro showed greater urgency after the interval and came close on several occasions, most notably when Laciné Dosso struck the post from long range and Alpha Karamoko forced a sharp save from goalkeeper Hamza Hamiani.

Olympic Safi doubled their advantage late in the match through substitute Moussa Koné, who calmly slotted home from close range in the 88th minute to put the hosts firmly in control.

San Pédro pulled one back deep into stoppage time when Amalaman Allou converted from inside the box following an assist from Laciné Dosso, but the goal came too late to change the outcome as Olympic Safi held on for the win that puts them on second place behind USM Alger.

 

Al Masry 1–2 Zamalek

Zamalek produced a resilient away performance to defeat Al Masry 2–1 in a tightly contested evening clash on Sunday.

The visitors took the lead in the 22nd minute when Hossam Abdelmaguid converted from the penalty spot after a foul in the area, sending his effort low into the corner.

Al Masry responded positively and were rewarded in the 32nd minute, with Salah Mohsen calmly dispatching a penalty of his own to restore parity following a handball decision.

The second half saw both sides push for a decisive goal, with chances at either end and several stoppages disrupting the rhythm of the match. Zamalek eventually found the breakthrough in the 75th minute, when Oday Dabbagh reacted quickest to a corner and fired a left-footed shot into the bottom corner from close range.

Al Masry pressed late on in search of an equaliser, but Zamalek defended resolutely through seven minutes of added time to secure all three points away from home.
