Seven-star Azam crush KMKM to reach TotalEnergies Confederation Cup group stage

Azam FC stormed into the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup group stage on Friday with a ruthless 7–0 defeat of KMKM in Dar es Salaam, completing a 9–0 aggregate triumph in the second preliminary round. 

Leading 2–0 from last week’s first leg in Zanzibar, the Tanzanian side finished the job with a four-goal burst before half-time and three more after the break at the Azam Complex Stadium.

The tie was effectively over by the interval as Azam’s tempo, pressing and width overwhelmed the visitors, who never recovered from the early onslaught.

The pattern was set after 20 minutes when Azam’s sustained pressure finally yielded the opener. With confidence surging, the hosts struck again four minutes later, then added a third on 27 minutes as KMKM struggled to clear their lines. 

A sweeping move down the right produced the fourth goal on 40 minutes, sending Azam into half-time 4–0 up on the day, 6–0 on aggregate, and cruising.

KMKM needed a miracle to extend their continental campaign but were pinned back from the restart. Azam maintained their intensity and added a fifth on 49 minutes with a low finish at the near post.

A quick-fire sixth followed on 53 minutes after another incisive attack carved through the defence, and a seventh on 57 minutes capped a dominant afternoon, the home crowd celebrating every pass as the minutes ticked away.

Beyond the scoreline, Azam’s control was total: their midfield recycled possession quickly, full-backs attacked relentlessly, and the back line remained largely untroubled to secure a second clean sheet in the tie.

KMKM battled to contain the damage and forced a couple of late set pieces, but the hosts’ goalkeeper enjoyed a quiet evening behind a disciplined unit.

The emphatic 9–0 aggregate win sends Azam into the group stage with momentum and belief, having showcased both cutting edge and defensive stability across the two legs.

For KMKM, the campaign ends with a harsh lesson at continental level after a spirited qualifying run.

The draw for the group phase now awaits Azam, who will fancy their chances of extending this form against stronger opposition.
