TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup semi-final, second leg: Four things to look out for

Published:

All African football eyes will be on Sunday’s TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup Semi-Finals when tournament debutants Dreams FC of Ghana play host to seasoned African football campaigners, Zamalek FC in Kumasi.

While two former champions are scheduled to face each other head on when RS Berkane of Morocco face off against Algeria’s USM Alger.

CAFOnline takes a glance at four key aspects that could make a difference on the two fixtures scheduled for Sunday evening.

Zamalek SC: Egyptian giants are happy travellers

Despite the result not going their way at home, former champions Zamalek will take solace in the fact that they have not tasted defeat in their last four away TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup matches with three victories and a draw to their name.

The Egyptian giants have the highest ball possession in the competition with 63% and playing 89% of their play in short passes with a pass accuracy of 85% - something the Ghanaians will have to be wary of when playing host to the former champions.

FC Dreams: History beckons for the Ghanaian side

On the contrary, Dreams FC are also without a loss at home in their last four fixtures. They have won three and drawn one, making Kumasi their happy hunting ground in their debut of the competition.

More importantly, the Ghanaian outfit is out to make history as the only Ghanaian side left in the competition, who could potentially lift the title on debut.

RS Berkane: Moroccans looking to reclaim their title

The Moroccans lifted the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup twice and are eager to do it again at the expense of current champions, USM Alger.

The Moroccans have been one of the best teams of the competition, finishing top of their group without a loss and looking like a team that is ready to sweep anything that is in front of a third continental title for them.

USM Alger in search for more continental glory

TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup reigning champions, USM Alger are not only the competition’s champions, but did the unthinkable when sinking Africa’s most successful club, Al Ahly in the TotalEnergies CAF Super Cup to become continental kings last season.

While going into the clash with a bruising 3-0 defeat, the Algerians’ taste of continental glory still lingers in their minds and will look back to that for inspiration to potential reverse the result.
