Algeria produced a late fightback to claim a 2-2 draw against Libya in a dramatic Group A encounter at the TotalEnergies CAF Futsal Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2026 on Wednesday.

Libya looked on course for their first victory of the tournament after building a two-goal lead, but Algeria capitalised on a late turning point to rescue a point at the Moulay Abdellah Sports Hall in Rabat.

The Mediterranean Knights took the lead in the 12th minute through Ibrahim Lemhammel, giving Libya the advantage after a competitive opening period.

Algeria had an opportunity to respond earlier in the match when they were awarded a penalty in the sixth minute following a foul. However, Amar Bessa was denied by an impressive save from Libya goalkeeper Ziyad Azeez, who produced a strong hand to keep his side in front.

Libya doubled their advantage in the 29th minute when Abdulhakim Rashid found the net, putting the North Africans in a commanding position.

Algeria refused to surrender and reduced the deficit in the 34th minute through Ali Skender Sichaib, setting up a tense closing period.

The contest took another dramatic turn in the 38th minute when Libya’s Ahmed Abdelhafide was sent off after receiving a second yellow card.

Algeria made the numerical advantage count almost immediately, with Samyr Teffaf converting the resulting free-kick in the 39th minute to complete the comeback and secure a share of the points.

The draw leaves both sides still searching for their first victory of the competition as the battle for a place in the semi-finals continues in Group A.
