TotalEnergies CAF Futsal AFCON: Angola fight back to beat Egypt and seal semi-final place

Angola produced a remarkable comeback to defeat Egypt 4-2 in their final Group B encounter at the TotalEnergies CAF Futsal Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2026 on Saturday, securing their place in the semi-finals alongside the Pharaohs.

Egypt looked firmly in control after Ibrahim Sayed scored twice in the opening 14 minutes, but a red card to goalkeeper Ahmed ElMorsi proved a turning point as Angola fought back to claim all three points in Rabat.

Sayed opened the scoring in the sixth minute before doubling Egypt’s advantage in the 14th, putting the Pharaohs in a strong position as they sought to finish their group-stage campaign on a high.

However, the match took a dramatic turn a minute later when ElMorsi was sent off for a reckless foul on Angola’s João Cambangula. The dismissal gave the Palancas Negras an opportunity to fight their way back into the contest.

Cambangula reduced the deficit in the 16th minute, breathing new life into Angola’s challenge as they looked to overturn the two-goal disadvantage.

Egypt suffered another setback shortly after the restart when Boody was stretchered off with an injury, adding to the pressure on the Pharaohs.

Angola capitalised on their momentum, with Magno Felipe Gomes equalising in the 25th minute before Cambangula struck again in the 30th to put his side ahead for the first time in the match.

Anderson Fortes then sealed the comeback with a fourth goal in the 40th minute, completing an impressive turnaround for the Angolans.

The result confirms Angola’s place in the semi-finals, where they will face Algeria on Monday, 19 October, at 17h00 GMT. Egypt, despite the defeat, also progress to the last four and will take on hosts and defending champions Morocco at 20h00 GMT.
