The race for continental honours begins in Morocco tonight as eight nations prepare to compete for the TotalEnergies CAF Futsal Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2026 title.

Defending champions Morocco lead the court alongside former winners Egypt and Libya, while Angola, Mozambique and Zambia return with ambitions of making their mark.

Algeria and Tanzania, meanwhile, are set to make their tournament debuts.

With the teams boasting different levels of experience and tournament success, the stage is set for an intriguing contest for the continental crown.

Morocco

Group A | Seven appearances | Three-time champions

The plays host to the tournament and will be the team to beat after winning the last three editions in 2016, 2020 and 2024.

Morocco have established themselves as the dominant force in African futsal and will look to extend their reign in front of their home supporters.

A fourth title would further strengthen their place among the continent’s most successful teams.

Libya

Group A | Six appearances | Champions in 2008

Libya return with a proud continental record and the experience of having lifted the trophy on home soil in 2008. They also finished third in 2000 and 2024, demonstrating their ability to compete for honours.

Zambia

Group A | Four appearances | Best finish: fourth in 2016

Zambia return for their fourth appearance after securing qualification by overcoming Ghana. They will be eager to improve on their previous campaigns and challenge the established sides in Group A.

Their opening match against Libya offers an immediate opportunity to make a statement.

Algeria

Group A | Tournament debutants

Algeria make their first appearance at the TotalEnergies CAF Futsal AFCON, with the North Africans looking to establish themselves on the continental stage.

Their opening fixture against defending champions Morocco presents a demanding introduction, but also an opportunity to measure their progress against Africa’s leading side.

Egypt

Group B | Eight appearances | Three-time champions

Egypt are among the competition’s most decorated nations, having won the first three editions in 1996, 2000 and 2004.

The Pharaohs will be seeking a return to the summit after years of competition from Morocco and other emerging forces.

Angola

Group B | Five appearances | Runners-up in 2024

Angola head to the tournament with a strong record in recent editions, having finished third in 2020 before reaching the final in 2024.

Their runners-up finish came after a 5-1 defeat to Morocco in the title decider. The Palancas Negras will be determined to go one step further this time and turn their recent progress into a first continental title.

Mozambique

Group B | Five appearances | Third place in 2016

Mozambique return looking to build on their previous continental campaigns, which include a third-place finish in 2016 and a runners-up position in 2004.
