Zambia make winning start with victory over Libya at TotalEnergies CAF Futsal AFCON Morocco 2026
Zambia made an impressive start to their TotalEnergies CAF Futsal Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2026 campaign with a 3-1 victory over Libya in the tournament’s opening match in Rabat on Monday.
Chipolopolo capitalised on their opportunities to secure all three points in a closely contested Group A encounter, with Patrick Mwila scoring twice to lead Zambia to victory.
Zambia made an immediate impact when Royd Chishala opened the scoring in the second minute before Mwila doubled their advantage four minutes later to give his side a commanding start.
The early goals set the tone for Zambia, who continued to threaten as the match progressed. Mwila struck again in the 23rd minute to complete his brace and put the Chipolopolo three goals ahead immediately after restart.

Libya pushed to find a way back into the contest and were rewarded in the final minute when Mohammed Abu Raas scored in the 40th minute. However, the late goal proved insufficient to spark a comeback as Zambia held on to claim a valuable opening victory.
The result gives Zambia an important early advantage in Group A as they seek to reach the semi-finals, while Libya will look to respond in their next outing.
Zambia will face hosts and defending champions Morocco on Wednesday, 14 October, before concluding their group-stage campaign against Algeria on Friday, 16 October.
Libya will look to bounce back against Algeria on Wednesday, before taking on Morocco in their final group match on Friday.
