TotalEnergies CAF Super Cup: Celebrating Africa’s champions, past and present

The proud tradition of the TotalEnergies CAF Super Cup will continue when TotalEnergies CAF Champions League 2024/25 winners Pyramids FC take on the highly experienced TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup 2024/25 holders RS Berkane at the 30 June Stadium in Cairo on Saturday, 18 October.
The clash promises to be another memorable chapter in the competition’s rich history, with Pyramids making their debut in the fixture and RS Berkane hoping to add to their 2022 title.
Conceived as a one-off match between the winners of the African Cup of Champion Clubs and the African Cup Winners’ Cup, the TotalEnergies CAF Super Cup’s format evolved in 2004 to feature the CAF Champions League winner against the CAF Confederation Cup holder.
Despite the changes, its essence remains unchanged - a showcase of continental supremacy. Over three decades, the competition has produced iconic moments and a roll of honour led by the giants of African football.
Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly reign supreme with a record eight TotalEnergies Super Cup titles, underlining their dominance in African interclub history.
Their Cairo rivals, Zamalek SC, follow closely with five titles, while TP Mazembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo have lifted the trophy three times. Étoile du Sahel (Tunisia), Enyimba (Nigeria),while Raja Club Athletic (Morocco) has lifted the title twice.
Beyond the statistics, the TotalEnergies CAF Super Cup has delivered unforgettable football drama.
The recent growth in global appetite for African football has seen recent editions being staged in neutral venues beyond African shores such as Qatar and Saudi Arabia, as CAF continues to expand the competition’s global footprint.
CAF’s recently renewed partnership with TotalEnergies has further elevated the competition’s pedigree, reinforcing CAF’s commitment to innovation, excellence, and the promotion of African football on the world stage.
