TotalEnergies U17 AFCON: Mimpo to change approach for Burkina Faso tie

Cameroon’s head coach Serge Mimpo says he will need to change his approach when they take on Burkina Faso in a must win final Group C clash at the TotalEnergies U17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Annaba on Sunday.

The defending champions are in a must win situation against the West Africans to retain their quarter final hopes. The elimination of South Sudan made the group complicated with only three teams involved.

After their 2-0 loss to Mali in the opening game, Mimpo’s charges have to win to advance.

“We have our backs against the wall and we have to win the game. We will change the approach from the game against Mali and we have to play an attacking game to earn a result that will make the Cameroonian people happy,”

“We spoke to the kids and they know what to do. We are ready for the challenge and will give our best,” the coach noted.

Among the things Mimpo says he hopes his team will improve on is the attack line, as their conversion of chances in the loss to Mali was not the best.

He says they have done some work in training to improve the efficiency and ensure they are better offensively.

At the same time, defender Henri Claude Balla has promised that the players will go into the duel with a different mentality, with the intention being three points.

“It will not be an easy tie. We have turned the page from our loss against Mali and we will bounce back stronger against Burkina Faso. We know a win will help us qualify and that is the motivation for us,” Balla noted.

He echoed his coach’s sentiments that his side needs to be efficient infront of goal to earn victory in the 17h00 local time kick off match.
