Despite failing to qualify for the quarter finals of the TotalEnergies U17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Algeria, Zambia managed to exit the competition with at least a win to their name, following their 2-1 victory over Morocco in Annaba on Saturday.

Emmanuel Mwanza, named man of the match after his splendid performance against the Moroccans that included an 87th minute winner, said they were proud of their effort and leave the tournament with their heads held high.

“I am happy to be named man of the match and definitely happy that as a team we managed to win this match. I want to congratulate my teammates for the effort we made to achieve this result,” Mwanza, who turns out for Kafue Celtic back in Zambia stated.

He added; “We leave with pride because at least we won a match. As much as some things didn’t go as planned, we will pick the positives as we move forward.”

He says they had planned to give their all against Morocco and despite going down 1-0 in the first half, they knew their resilience would pay off as they scored twice in the last quarter of an hour to win the game.

They finished bottom of the group with three points, behind South Africa on head-to-head basis.
