Clarity on the classification of group placings at the TotalEnergies CAF Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations

The group stage at the TotalEnergies CAF Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations, Egypt 2025 will be concluded on Friday. Here is a reminder of how group placings are determined and how the best third placed teams are calculated.

GROUP PLACINGS
ARTICLE 60
60.1 In case of points equality between two teams at the end of the group matches, the teams will be ranked according to the following criteria in the order listed below:

60.1.1 The highest number of points obtained in the match between the two concerned teams;

60.1.2 The goal difference in all group matches;

60.1.3 The highest number of goals scored in the whole group matches;

60.1.4 A drawing of lots conducted by the Organising Committee.

60.2 In case of equality between more than two teams at the end of the group matches, the teams will be ranked according to the following criteria in the order listed below:

60.2.1. The greatest number of points obtained in the matches between the concerned teams;

60.2.2. The best goal difference in the matches between the concerned teams;

60.2.3. The greatest number of goals scored in the matches between the concerned teams;

60.2.4. If after applying criteria 60.2.1 to 60.2.3, two teams are still equal, 60.2.1 to 60.2.3. criteria are again applied to matches played between the two teams in question to determine the final ranking of the two teams. If this procedure does not allow classifying them, the criteria listed from 60.2.5 to 60.2.7 are applied in the indicated order;

60.2.5. The goals difference in all group matches;

60.2.6. The highest number of goals scored in all group matches;

60.2.7. A drawing of lots conducted by the Organising Committee

DETERMINING TWO BEST THIRD-PLACED TEAMS
To have equal number of matches between the 3 teams ranked third, the results of the team ranked 5th in Group A will be excluded. This is only applicable for the comparison between the 3 teams ranked 3rd.

After excluding the results of the 5th team in Group A, the following criteria will be applied to compare between the 3 teams ranked 3rd:

- The highest number of points obtained according to the following:

- In case of points equality between two or more. the teams will be ranked according to the following criteria in the order listed below:

- The goal difference in all group matches;

- The highest number of goals scored in the whole group matches;

- A drawing of lots conducted by the Organising Committee.
