Senegal hat-trick hero Diop credits team-mates

Senegal striker Pape Diop has credited his man of the match performance against Egypt to head coach Malick Daf and his teammates.

The young attacker scored the first hat-trick of the 2023 TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday in their 4-0 thrashing of the Young Pharaohs.

The Zulte Waregem starlet opened the score in the second half before adding two further in the space of three minutes to complete his treble.

"We achieved victory today, and our focus is now focused on the next match," Diop said after being presented with the Man of the Match award.

"When you make an effort, you reach your goal, and now we are very focused on reaching the World Cup."

Diop partnered Sulaymane Faye in the Senegalese attack as the already qualified Teranga Lions made some changes to their starting line-up.

"I honestly did not expect to score three goals, but the coach and my teammates told me that I would score," he said

"We are now working on our next goal and our focus is entirely on it."
