UNAF U-20 Championship: Morocco beats Algeria

Published:

Morocco had a good start to their campaign in the North African (UNAF) U-20 Championship, serving as qualifiers to the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, Mauritania 2021, by defeating Algeria 1-0 on Friday at the Chedli Zouiten Stadium in Tunis.

The Match Day 2 fixture was decided thanks to Morocco’s Mehdi Maohoub strike after 76 minutes.

Meanwhile, Tunisia was considered 2-0 winners over Egypt, after the match was annulled because the Egyptian team list included just 14 players, due to having several players positive for COVID-19.

Following Match Day 2, Tunisia tops the standings with 4 points from two matches, followed by Libya and Morocco with 3 points each from one match, while Algeria comes fourth with one point from two games. Egypt trails the standings pointless after both their matches were annulled.

First and second teams qualify for the continental finals to be held in Mauritania in February 2021.
