Mali U23 coach Diallo delighted with Olympic qualification

Badara Alou Diallo, the head coach of Mali's U23 team, expressed his happiness after successfully guiding his team to qualify for the Paris Olympics 2023.
In a play-off game against Guinea at the Ibn Batouta Stadium in Tangier, Mali emerged victorious, winning 4-3 in a penalty shootout.
"I believe we showed great bravery against a strong Guinea side that posed a significant threat throughout the match. I am pleased with the outcome, considering the intense nature of the game that could have swung in any direction," said Diallo.
Following their narrow penalty shootout defeat to hosts Morocco in the semi-final stage, Diallo emphasized the determination of his players to bounce back and secure the final Olympic slot.
"I was appointed with the objective of achieving Olympic qualification. I was entrusted with this responsibility, and now the people of Mali have placed their trust in me," expressed a jubilant Diallo.
While acknowledging that his team had opportunities to score, Diallo commended Guinea for their dominant performance and also acknowledged their missed chances.
He described Guinea as a highly talented team with a strong strategic approach. "I wish them the best in the play-off, and I sincerely hope Guinea can also secure Olympic qualification," added Diallo.
The coach revealed that the team received a phone call from the Minister, congratulating them on their achievement.
"Such gestures from the government serve as significant motivation for the team, as they recognize our hard work and dedication," Diallo added.
Mali will join Morocco and Egypt as representatives of Africa at the Paris Olympics 2024. If Guinea succeeds in the play-off, Africa will secure an additional slot, further highlighting the continent's strength in youth football.
