Mamelodi Sundowns snatches a difficult 1-0 win over Rivers Angels

Mamelodi Sundowns won their second match in as many games to go top of Group B, after beating Rivers Angels 1-0 in Matchday 2 at El Salam Stadium, Cairo.

The South Africans raised their tally to six points on top of the group, three more than Kenya’s Vihiga Queens and Morocco’s ASFAR. Nigeria’s Rivers Angels trail the group pointless.

Mamelodi Sundowns’ Captain, ZANELE PORTIA NHLAPHO, scored what proved to be the game’s lone goal at the 17th minute, as Massandawna recorded their second identical 1-0 of the tournament.

Rivers Angels tried to get back in the match but could not turn the chances into goals.

Post-Match Comments:

ORATILE DIKGOSI MOKWENA – Mamelodi Sundowns Midfielder – Woman of The Match

“The match was tough as we expected, so we tried to stay composed and play our style”

“It’s an honor to win the Woman of The Match award. As a midfielder as in midfield the team gets affected by my performance, so when we play as a unit it gets us where we want”.

“I’m not surprised by wining the award because every one of us deserves this, so I consider it for the whole team”.

Jerry Tshabalala – Mamelodi Sundowns Coach

“It was a very tough game for us, we tried to play our football, but it was very difficult. I’m not completely happy with the performance, as we couldn’t score more”.

“I’ve seen ASFAR more than once, it will be an open game as they like to play in a way similar to us. They will be very dangerous. Anything can happen in football, so we have to be cautious”.

“We are not the team that plays defensively, we will not set back, we will attack. We have to keep possession as much as we can”.

Edwin Okon – Rivers Angels Coach

“It was a good game, but not from our side. We created many chances but did not score. But the goal we conceded is what makes me unhappy.

“This defeat breaks my heart as a coach”.
