Wadi Degla, not just a story of women's football

Wadi Degla is undoubtedly the most successful team in Egyptian women's football, with record 12 Egyptian Women Football League titles.

The Women division of the multi-branched Cairo based club was formed in 2007. In their first season they won the 2007-08 Egyptian Women League title. Last season (2020-21) they celebrated their 12th League title, and the 11th in a row.

Wadi Degla SC is owned by Wadi Degla Holding, a group that includes different operating aspects including sports facilities, telecommunications, industrial projects and real estate development.

Wadi Degla Holding launched the “Wadi Degla Sporting Club” in 2003. The club was initially based in Maadi, before having several other branches in New Cairo, Heliopolis, 6th of October and Ain Sokhna.

Besides the men and women football teams, Wadi Degla also has sports teams in various sports including handball, volleyball, swimming among others. Wadi Degla Holding is also the owner of Lierse SK football club in Belgium.

Having an agreement with Premier League side Arsenal, Wadi Degla Women's section played in the “Arsenal Cup” in London, and wo the title of the friendly tournament in 2008.

In 2009, Wadi Degla hosted the invitational “North Africa Tournament” in Ain Sokhna Marina, with the top sides in North African leagues taking part. Wadi Degla finished in second place.

In 2012, Wadi Degla won the title of the “Discovery Football Tournament” in Berlin, Germany. They also won the “Lebanon Friendly Cup” in 2015.

Besides their record 12 Egyptian League titles, Wadi Degla also won Egypt Women's Cup for a record five times.

On the Juniors level, Wadi Degla won first place in Egypt Youth Tournament in 2016-17 and 2020-21. They will take part in the promotional “Red Bull” Cup in Brazil next December.

Today we are starting a new chapter with our Ladies team taking part in the first ever TotalEnergies CAF Women's Champions League as the Champions of Egypt.” said Wadi Degla Chairman Maged Samy before adding “We are really proud of the girls and supporting them to go distances in this flagship event.”
