Ghana name provisional Black Queens squad for WAFCON Morocco 2026

Published:

Ghana head coach Kim Lars Björkegren has named a provisional Black Queens squad for the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2026.

The list brings together experienced players, foreign-based professionals and home-based talents as Ghana prepare for their return to the continental stage.

Captain Portia Boakye, Grace Asantewaa, Evelyn Badu, Jennifer Cudjoe, Princella Adubea, Doris Boaduwaa, Stella Nyamekye and Alice Kusi are among the senior players included.

The squad also features Ghana Women’s Premier League players such as Cynthia Konlan Fiindib of FC Samartex Ladies, Osman Huzeima of Jonina Ladies and Ajegipina Zakaria of Ampem Darkoa Ladies.

Their inclusion underlines Björkegren’s attempt to build a balanced squad that reflects both Ghana’s local talent base and the growing number of Black Queens players competing abroad.

Experience at the centre of Ghana’s plans

Ghana will be looking to make a strong impact in Morocco after showing signs of progress under Björkegren.

The Swedish coach has brought structure and renewed belief to the Black Queens, and his squad selection points to a team built around leadership, energy and attacking quality.

Boakye, Cudjoe, Asantewaa and Badu bring tournament experience and midfield control, while Adubea, Boaduwaa and Nyamekye offer attacking threat.

Boaduwaa, who played a key role in qualification, is expected to be one of Ghana’s most important attacking players.

Home-based players rewarded

The presence of domestic-based players is also significant.

Cynthia Konlan Fiindib, Osman Huzeima and Ajegipina Zakaria have been handed places in the provisional squad, giving Ghana’s local league strong representation.

Their selection offers them the chance to compete for final places in the squad and shows that performances at home remain part of the national team pathway.

Group D challenge awaits

Ghana have been drawn in Group D, where they will face Cape Verde, Cameroon and Mali.

The Black Queens will open their campaign against Cape Verde on 29 July before meeting Cameroon on 2 August and Mali on 6 August.

All three matches are scheduled to be played at the Moulay Rachid Stadium in Casablanca.

The group is expected to test Ghana’s consistency, physical strength and ability to handle different styles of opposition.

Cape Verde will arrive as debutants with confidence, Cameroon bring tournament pedigree, while Mali remain one of the continent’s most competitive sides.
