Marine Dafeur sends Algeria to Morocco as Les Vertes Seal historic qualification
For the second consecutive time, Algeria have secured their place at the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations thanks to a moment of brilliance from Marine Dafeur.
The Algerian forward scored the only goal of the match against Cameroon at the Stade de la Réunification in Douala, sealing a famous victory and booking Algeria’s ticket to the continental showpiece.
This latest triumph follows their 2–1 first-leg win in Bir El Djir four days earlier, capping off an impressive collective performance under head coach Farid Benstiti.

Dafeur’s decisive moment of brilliance
Dafeur’s goal was more than just a personal success — it symbolised the unity, discipline, and growing confidence of an Algerian side that continues to evolve year after year. Since Benstiti took charge in 2022, the team has undergone a tactical and mental transformation, balancing attacking flair with defensive resilience.
Known for his modern approach and ability to blend experience with youth, the French tactician has guided the team to one of its strongest periods in recent memory.
The return leg in Douala was anything but easy. Up against a powerful and determined Cameroon side on home soil, Les Vertes needed composure and concentration.
The Indomitable Lionesses dominated early possession and pressed high, but Algeria’s defence — marshalled by its experienced leaders — held firm.
Then, in the 22nd minute, Benstiti’s counter-attacking plan came to life. Released behind the Cameroonian backline, Marine Dafeur kept her cool to slot home the decisive goal that secured Algeria’s place in Morocco.
A Symbol of steady progress
This qualification confirms Algeria’s growing stature in women’s football across Africa.
Since making their debut at the 2004 Women’s AFCON, the team has steadily matured, learning to manage high-pressure moments and growing into genuine continental contenders. Their quarter-final finish in 2024 remains their best result to date — and expectations will be higher than ever when they arrive in Morocco next year.
