Mukansanga, Dlamini and Laassiri highlight fierce competition ahead of WAFCON

“We’re not taking anything for granted as defending champions,” said South Africa’s goalkeeper Andile Dlamini following the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2025 draw ceremony in Morocco.
Dlamini emphasized the Banyana Banyana’s determination to work hard as they prepare to defend their title.
“This competition will be intense. The teams have grown stronger, and it all comes down to who performs best on the day,” she added.
“For many African girls, this tournament is where dreams begin, and South Africa is ready to showcase its talent once again.”
Host nation Morocco is equally determined to leave its mark. Coach Fatiha Laassiri expressed her pride and optimism for the home team.
“Playing at home is a huge advantage,” she said.
“Our supporters will energize the players, and we will give everything to ensure the trophy stays in Morocco. It’s not going to be easy, but our goal is to perform at our best and aim for victory.”
Rwandan referee Salima Mukansanga, a trailblazer in the sport, highlighted the competitiveness of the tournament.
“Every team is coming prepared to fight, compete, and win,” Mukansanga said.
“This will be a festival of football, and only the best team will emerge victorious. It’s going to be tough, but it will be worth watching.”
The 15th edition of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, set to run from July 5 to July 26, 2025, features 12 teams divided into three groups.
