On the eve of the 2025 CAF Women’s Champions League, Egypt’s FC Masar enter the tournament for a second successive year with captain Amira Mohamed setting out an uncompromising target: win the title on home soil and book a berth at the inaugural FIFA Women’s Club World Cup.

Speaking to CAFOnline.com, the skipper outlined the team’s mindset, preparation and hopes of turning a nation’s backing into silverware

Below is the full Q&A:

CAFOnline.com: Amira, you are taking part in the CAF Women’s Champions League for the second successive year. What does this competition mean to you?

Amira Mohamed: We are very happy and proud to be here again—especially with the tournament in Egypt. It is a unique opportunity. We want to go as far as possible and, above all, win the title on our own turf in front of our supporters.

CAFOnline.com: How are you preparing for the finals? Is there anything specific in your build-up?

Amira Mohamed: We are working relentlessly—both domestically and for the continent. A competition at this level demands rigour and consistency. There is also a powerful incentive: the winners qualify for the first FIFA Women’s Club World Cup™. That is a dream and an extra source of energy. We want FC Masar to be Africa’s first representative at this historic event.

CAFOnline.com: In your view, how important will mentality be during this tournament?

Amira Mohamed: Mental strength is the key. Mindset and confidence count as much as tactics. The technical staff talk to us a lot and keep us motivated. Last season’s experience helped us grow. And because the competition is in Egypt, we get a real psychological lift—we feel the crowd’s support and the desire to perform.

CAFOnline.com: It’s a strong field, with experienced clubs such as AS FAR and TP Mazembe. How do you assess the level?

Amira Mohamed: It will be very high, no doubt. Some clubs are used to the big stage; others arrive full of enthusiasm. But we fear no one. We have prepared seriously and we are ready. Playing at home gives us extra motivation. We will give everything—through our play and our attitude—to chase the title.

CAFOnline.com: What are your precise objectives for this edition?

Amira Mohamed: One objective: win the Champions League. It would be a first in our club’s history and it would open the door to the first Women’s Club World Cup. We want to make history for Egyptian football and inspire the next generation.

CAFOnline.com: How would you describe the team’s spirit before kick-off?

Amira Mohamed: Unity is our strength. We have played together for more than a year, and that continuity has created real cohesion. Everyone knows each other’s role. The spirit is excellent and we want to keep that chemistry throughout the competition.

CAFOnline.com: You follow African women’s football closely. What do you make of its evolution in recent years?

Amira Mohamed: It is impressive. The level is rising across the continent—more professionalism, visibility and interest. It is a great development and I hope it continues. African women’s football deserves the attention and resources it is getting.

CAFOnline.com: With the tournament at home, what do you expect from the Egyptian public?

Amira Mohamed: I hope the supporters come in large numbers. We represent the whole country, not only our club. Their presence and encouragement can make the difference. Feeling the crowd behind us gives incomparable energy.

CAFOnline.com: Your message to the squad as captain?

Amira Mohamed: Believe in ourselves. We have everything to succeed. The dream of winning this Champions League and reaching the FIFA Women’s Club World Cup™ must guide us. We must play with heart, discipline and pride. Together, everything is possible.
