Morocco’s AS Far finished in third position in this year’s edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League, after a 2-0 victory over Ampem Darkoa in a third and fourth play-off match played at the Amadou Gon Coulibaly Stadium in Korhogo on Saturday, 18 November.

The former champions had to settle for a third-place contest after they were knocked out in the semi-finals by inaugural champions, Mamelodi Sundowns in the semi-finals on Wednesday.

Ampem Darkoa, making their debut in the competition walk away as the fourth best team of the competition – a great achievement for the Ghanaian side on their maiden appearance after being knockout out in the semi-finals by SC Casablanca who will be in action against Mamelodi Sundowns on Sunday.

It took just over a half an hour for the former champions to find the opener, courtesy of a Mafia Nyame strike in the 33rd minute who fired her side into the lead.

The goal spurred the Moroccans on and with momentum on their side, Ghizlane Chebbak sealed the victory just before the break with a goal in the dying minutes of the first half to make it two over the Ghanaian outfit.

Coming back from the recess, Ampem Darkoa had a few good moments in their build ups but hardly did much to trouble the former champions who were clinical in defense, allowing very few scoring opportunities for their opponents.

With no additional goals scored in the second half, the tie concluded with a victory for the Moroccans, as they walk away as the third-best side in the CAF Women’s Champions League, Cote d’Ivoire 2023.
