How the Team Qualified

As the reigning African champions, Association Sportive des Forces Armées Royales (AS FAR) secured their place in this edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League by winning the continental title in the previous edition.

The Coach: Hicham El Idrissi

Appointed in July, Hicham El Idrissi has been tasked with guiding AS FAR to a historic title defence, an achievement yet to be accomplished in the history of the competition.

Throughout his coaching career, he has managed several Moroccan sides, including CODM Meknès and Chabab Atlas Khénifra, with whom he won two second-division league titles in 2011 and 2014, respectively.

His experience also extends to the international stage, having served as assistant coach of the Jordan national team, which finished runners-up at the 2024 Asian Cup, as well as goalkeeping coach at Wydad Casablanca.

Now at the helm of the reigning African champions, El Idrissi will look to draw on his experience, tactical discipline and collective cohesion to take on an unprecedented challenge -  leading AS FAR to a second consecutive continental title.

The Player: Ghizlane Chebbak

After spells in the Spanish and Saudi Arabian leagues, Ghizlane Chebbak has returned to AS FAR, the club close to her heart, where she has helped shape the history of Moroccan women’s football.

Named 2025 CAF African Women’s Player of the Year at the CAF Awards, the Atlas Lionesses captain returns to Rabat with an outstanding record and the ambition of continuing her story with the Military side.

On the pitch, Chebbak stands out for her vision and precise passing.

Equally capable of dictating play and making the difference in the final third, she has also finished as the leading scorer at the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, scoring three goals in 2022 and five in 2024.

AS FAR at the CAF Women’s Champions League

AS FAR have established themselves as one of the leading forces in African women’s football. The Moroccan side were crowned African champions in 2022 after an emphatic 4-0 victory over Mamelodi Sundowns in the final, before returning to the continental summit in 2025 with a 2-1 win over ASEC Mimosas in the final.

They also finished on the podium in 2021 and 2023, before reaching the final again in 2024.

Following their second continental triumph, AS FAR became the first African club to participate in the FIFA Women’s Champions Cup, featuring in the inaugural edition in 2026.
