CAF Women’s Champions League Morocco 2024: AS FAR vs TP Mazembe Match Facts

This game represents the first meeting between AS FAR and TP Mazembe.

TP Mazembe will be the 15th different club that AS FAR will face at the finals, the only team that they have faced more than once is Mamelodi Sundowns.

TP Mazembe are the first club from the DRC that AS FAR will face at the finals, the Democratic Republic of Congo is the11th  different nation along with Equatorial Guinea, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Nigeria, South Africa, Senegal and Zambia. Against whose clubs they would have faced. 

AS FAR are the fifth different club TP Mazembe will face at the finals and the first from Morocco.  

This is also TP Mazembe’s first meeting against a host club.

This game will be AS FAR’s third against a team from the UNIFAC region, previously they managed to win 3-1 and 1-0 against Equatorial Guinean clubs Malabo Kings and Hurucanes in the 2021 and 2023 third place play-off and group stages.

TP Mazembe are facing a club from North Africa for the second time since they defeated Egyptian side Wadi Degla 1-0 in their opening game in 2022.

AS FAR

  • The hosts began the finals with a 3-0 win over Aigles de la Medina in their opening game, their joint biggest win in their opening game at the finals along with a 3-0 triumph over Nigerian outfit Rivers Angels in 2021.
  • AS FAR’s record in their opening game at the finals reads P4 W3 D0 L1.
  • AS FAR have only once previously won their opening two games at the finals, in 2022 when defeating Simba Queens and Green Buffaloes.
  • AS FAR’s record in their second group game at the finals over three previous editions reads W2 D0 L1. They won their second group game in 2022 and in 2023 against Huracanes while, their second group game in 2021 ended in a 2-0 loss to Vihiga Queens of Kenya.
  • With their victory in their first game at the current edition AS FAR’s record at the group stage now reads P10 W7 D1 L2.
  • Victory for AS FAR will see them as hosts for a second time win their opening two games along with 2022.
  • AS FAR players Khadija Er- Rmichi, Nouhaila Benzina, Fatima Zahra Dahmos, Aziza Rabbah and Ghizlaine Chhiri have now featured at all four editions of the finals for them.
  • Khadija Er- Rmichi and Ghizlaine Chhiri has started all 16 games at the finals for AS FAR.
  • AS FAR goalkeeper Khadija Er-Rmichi playing in her 16th game at the finals against Aigles de la Medina kept her 11th clean-sheet. The most by a goalkeeper in the history of the tournament.
  • Er- Rmichi made four saves in the win over Aigles de la Medina.
  •  In their opening game win over Aigles de la Medina Doha El Madani scored a brace, scoring with both her shots on target in the game.
  • El Madani and Aziza Rabbah became their clubs 7th and 8th different scorers at the finals.
  • Rabbah playing at her fourth finals scored her first goal in AS FAR’s opening game, it was her 15th game at the tournament.
  • Rabbah had 72 touches, as well as attempted 62 passes and completed 53 passes, the most in the game by a player from either team.
  • A draw in the game preceding this match between UWC Ladies and Aigles de la Medina and a win for AS FAR will see them progress to the knockout stage for a fourth tournament.

 

TP Mazembe

  • TP Mazembe began with a 2-0 win in their opening game against UWC Ladies. They have now won their first match at both editions in which they have participated, also defeated Wadi Degla in their first game in 2022.
  • TP Mazembe recorded their biggest win at the finals with their opening game win over UWC Ladies.
  • TP Mazembe ended a two game losing run at the finals with victory in their opening game.
  • TP Mazembe scored more than a single goal in the same game at the finals for the first time, in their opening game win against UWC Ladies.
  • All four of Mazembe’s games at the finals have produced a winner, in each game the winning team have kept a clean-sheet.
  • TP Mazembe kept their second clean-sheet in the tournament against UWC Ladies, both have come in their opening game.
  • Lacho Flora Marta is the second player to score for TP Mazembe at the finals along with Merveille Kanjinga, who scored their opening goal in 2022.
  • Marta is the first player to score and make an assist for TP Mazembe in the same game at the finals.
  • Of Mazembe’s six shots on target in their opening match half (3) were attempted by Marta.
  • Kandjinga scored TP Mazembe’s second goal in their opening game, becoming the first player to score for TP Mazembe at two different editions of the finals.
  • Kandjinga scored with her only shot on target in the game against UWC Ladies.
  • TP Mazembe were facing South African opponents for the second time, in 2022 they lost 5-0 to Sundowns. The win over UWC Ladies was their first win over a club from South Africa.
  • TP Mazembe had 26 shots at goal in their win over UWC Ladies, the most they have had in a single game at the finals. Surpassing the 24 they attempted in their opening game win over Wadi Degla in 2022.
  • Fourteen of Mazembe’s 26 shots on goal were from inside the 18 yard area, in their opening game.
  • TP Mazembe had  six shots on target in the win over UWC Ladies the second most they have ever had at the finals. Only had more shots on target (7) in their final group game against Mamelodi Sundowns in 2022.
  • TP Mazembe have never previously won two games at the same edition of the final in 2022, after defeating Wadi Degla in their first game they lost their second game 2-0 against Nigerian club Bayelsa Queens and then their final game 4-0 against Mamelodi Sundowns.
