CAF Women’s Champions League Morocco 2024: UWC Ladies vs AS FAR Match Facts

This will be the first meeting between the teams at the finals.

UWC Ladies are the second team from South Africa that AS FAR will have faced at the finals.

This is AS FAR’s fourth match against a team from South Africa at the finals, all of their previous three games have come against Mamelodi Sundowns.

AS FAR’s record in their three previous matches against South African clubs at the finals reads W1 D1 L1.

AS FAR in the past against South African clubs drew 0-0 at the group stages in their final group game in 2021 against Sundowns. While they defeated Sundowns 4-0 in the 2022 Final and lost 2-0 to them in the 2022 Semi-final.

In addition to their three games against Sundowns, AS FAR also faced another COSAFA team in the form of Green Buffaloes of Zambia in the 2022 group stages, they won the game 2-1.

Overall AS FAR’s record against teams from the COSAFA region reads P4 W2 D1 L1.

UWC Ladies are the 16th different team that AS FAR will be facing at the finals, this is their 18th game.

This will also be the sixth meeting between clubs from Morocco and South Africa at the finals, in addition to AS FAR facing Sundowns three times, Sundowns also met SC Casablanca twice in 2023 at the group stages and the final winning both games.

Of the previous five games between Moroccan clubs and South African clubs at the finals, the South African clubs have an advantage with 3 wins to 1, with one draw.

The only game between Moroccan and South African clubs at the finals not to produce goals was AS FAR’s 0-0 draw with Sundowns in their final group game in 2021. 

 

UWC Ladies

·      Won their last game against Aigles de la Medina 2-0, their first win in the tournament after losing their opening game against TP Mazembe.

·      Victory could send UWC Ladies through to the Semi-finals. Should they progress they will be the second South African club along with Mamelodi Sundowns to have reached the last four of the finals.

·      UWC’s Molatelo Kabo scored their opening goal in the win over Aigles de la Medina, becoming the first player from her team to score at the finals.

·      Kabo came on as a substitute in the win over Aigles de la Medina and scored with her only shot on target.

·      Ntombifikile Ndlovu scored their second goal in the win over Aigles de la Medina, scoring with her only shot on target.

·      UWC Ladies goalkeeper Princess Ngcobo made two saves in their win over Aigles de la Medina, keeping her first clean-sheet at the tournament she has made a total of six saves across two games.

·      In four previous games at the finals in their third group game the record of COSAFA teams reads P4 W2 D1 L0. Sundowns won two games in 2022 and 2023, while Green Buffaloes lost in 2022, the other game in 2021 involving Sundowns was drawn.

·      Overall this is the third meeting between a South African clubs and a host team at the finals, Sundowns in 2022 lost 4-0 in the final to AS FAR, in 2023 they managed to defeat Athletico Abidjan 3-0 in their final group game.

 

AS FAR

·      Won their opening two games, this is only the second time at the finals that they have done so along with 2022.

·      Victory for AS FAR will see them win all three group games at the finals for only the second time along with 2022.

·      A point will see AS FAR progress to the last four for a fourth time, should they reach the Semi-finals they will be the first team to do so.

·      AS FAR have won 8 group games at the finals in 11 group matches (D1 L2), only ever losing two group games, only Sundowns (1) of any team who has played six or more group games at the finals has lost fewer.

·      AS FAR’s Doha El Madani has scored three goals in her team’s opening two games, she is the first AS FAR player to score in their opening two group games at the finals.

·      A goal for El Madani will see her become the second player from AS FAR to score in three successive games at the finals, Ibtissam Jraidi in 2022 scored in their third group, the Semi-final and Final

·      Sanaa Mssoudy scored a brace against TP Mazembe in AS FAR’s 3-1 win in their second group game, taking her tally to five goals in the finals. She had previously scored a hattrick in AS FAR’s first ever game a 3-0 win over Rivers Angels of Nigeria in 2021.

·      Another goal for Mssoudy will see her go level with Jraidi as AS FAR’s leading scorer at the tournament. Jraidi scored six goals in their title winning run in 2022.

·      AS FAR have never previously lost their final group game at the finals (D1 W2).

·      AS FAR goalkeeper Khadija Er- Rmichi has never conceded a goal in the final group game at the finals, she has been goalkeeper in all three previous games for AS FAR.

·      Er Rmichi made five saves in AS FAR’s 3-1 win over TP Mazembe in their last group game, the most saves she has made at the current finals.
