CAF Women's Champions League 2024: Everything you need to know about the qualifiers

The qualifying phase of the fourth edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League begins in August. Title holders, Mamelodi Sundowns have already qualified for the final phase of the competition where they will be hoping to secure a record third continental title.

 

FORMAT

Eight teams will compete in the final phase of the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League.

As reigning champions, Mamelodi Sundowns will be joined by the tournament hosts as the two automatically qualified.

Each of the CAF Zonal Unions (6) will conduct their own qualifiers, with the winners set to gain qualification to the CAF Women’s Champions League.

 

Qualification Draw

The Draw for the CECAFA, UNAF, UNIFFAC and WAFU B Draws will take place on 24 July at the CAF Headquarters in Cairo Egypt.

 

WAFU A QUALIFIERS

The competition will take place between 02 - 11 August at the Bo Stadium in Sierra Leone.

Draw Procedures

Mogbwemo Queens will be seeded into the A1 position as representatives of the host country while winner of the previous edition of the WAFU A tournament, AS Mandé is in position A2

The three remaining teams will be in the same pot and will be placed in A3, A4 and A5.

The format will be a round-robin with a victory being three points, a draw being one and zero for a loss.

The team that finishes first in this championship will represent WAFU A in the CAF Women’s Champions League.

WAFU B QUALIFIERS

The competition will take place between 10 – 23 August in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire at the Stade Félix Houphouët Boigny and Champroux Stadium

·      Hasaacas Ladies (Ghana)

·      Inter Abidjan (Côte d'Ivoire)

·      AO Étincelles (Burkina Faso)

·      AS National Guard (Niger)

·      Edo Queens (Nigeria)

·      ASKO from Kara (Togo)

 

Draw Procedures

·      Two pots will be used for this draw.

·      Inter Abidjan as representative of the host country will be seeded in the A1 position.

·      Hasaacas Ladies who are the highest ranked club in WAFU B rankings occupy position B1.

·      Pot 1 will have five teams. The first ball drawn will be A2, the second B2, the third A3 and the fourth B3.

·      In pot 2, the ranking of the seventh team will be determined which will be either A4 or B4.

UNIFFAC QUALIFIERS

The qualifiers will take place between 16 - 24 August in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo Stadiums at the Martyrs Stadium

·      TP Mazembe (DR Congo)

·      Atlético de Malabo (Equatorial Guinea)

·      CSM Diables Noirs (Congo)

Draw Procedure

There will be two pots, one bearing the names of the clubs and the other with the letters by which the positions of the teams will be defined (A2, A3, A4). TP Mazembe, club of the host country, will be positioned in A1.

Another club will take the corresponding letter, according to the draw.

CECAFA QUALIFIERS

The competition will take place between 17 August and 04 September in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia at the Addis Ababa Stadium and Abebe Bikila Stadium.

Draw Procedures

·      Commercial Bank Of Ethiopia “CBE FC” will be seeded in A1 position as the representative of the host country.

·      Simba Queens of Tanzania will be seeded in B1 as the reigning champions.  

·      Pot 1 contains Buja Queens and Vihiga Queens who came third and fourth respectively in the 2023 CECAFA tournament.

·      Pot 2 contains the rest of the teams participating in the 2024 edition of the CECAFA tournament: Rayon Sports, Yei Joint Stars, Warriors Queens, FAD, Kawempe Muslim and PVP Buyengi.

·      The first ball drawn from POT 1 joins group A and becomes A2.

·      The second remaining ball becomes B2.

·      In POT 2, the first ball drawn joins Group A and becomes A3,

·      The second ball drawn joins Group B and becomes B3,

·      The third ball drawn joins Group A and becomes A4.

·      The fourth ball drawn joins Group B and becomes B4

·      The fifth ball drawn joins Group A and becomes A5.

UNAF QUALIFIERS

The competition will take place between 21 - 31 August 2 to 31 in Algiers, Algeria.

At the July 5 Stadium as well as the Nelson Mandela Stadium.

Draw procedures

The first club drawn will be positioned in A1, then the same process will repeat until the positions of the other teams are determined.
